- Executive Director highlights US$300 Million in trade in this period between the two nations
Santo Domingo. The Executive Director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), Dr. Jean A. Rodríguez, greeted the creation of the Chilean Chamber of Commerce with pleasure, an entity created for the purpose of fomenting and optimizing opportunities and ties in trade development between the Dominican Republic and Chile.
The government official positively judged the initiative, which he stated, attempts to strengthen the bonds between the two sister nations.
He emphasized that thanks to ties, collaboration, and common objectives, commercial trade between Chile and the Dominican Republic has received a boost, which between 2012 and June, 2015, almost reached US$300 Million, according to preliminary data.
Rodriguez Expressed his views while participating as guest of honor in the official opening act of the Chilean Chamber of Commerce, which was held in the Chilean Embassy in the Dominican Republic, on March 8 of the current year. The event was led by the Chilean Ambassador, Mr. Fernando Barreras Robinson, the president of the Chilean Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic, Mr. Luis Rodriguez, and the Executive Director of the CEI-RD, Dr. Jean Alain Rodriguez.
Trade with Chile
According to the CEI-RD’s Executive Director, in this commercial exchange, “our star export product stands out: the now famous Dominican rum”. In addition, he underscored that a growing number of, diverse products are being exported to Chile, which has been possible, thanks to the arduous work of President Danilo Medina’s Government in export matters, highlighting that we are currently exporting 3,780 product lines to over 170 countries.
In another context, the government official revealed that, direct Chilean Investment in the Dominican Republic, is around US$105.3 Million, mainly in the energy and financial sectors, “all of this thanks to the many favorable conditions the country offers as the main foreign investment destination in the Caribbean region, such as political and economic stability; excellent communications and transport infrastructure, diverse sector incentives, and a skilled work force”.
One Stop Investment Shop (VUI-RD)
Finally, CEI-RD’s Director, placed at the disposition of the Chilean Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic and all its members, all of CEI-RD’s free services related to advice and accompaniment, and of the One Stop Shop (VUI-RD), from where all Chilean investors interested in our country, will be able to process from one place, all permits required to establish a project in Dominican territory.
