•From May 23rd to the 25th Cuban businessmen will be visiting the DR to explore business opportunities.

Santo Domingo. In coordination with the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD, for its initials in Spanish) and the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Cuba, from May 23rd to the 25th of this year, a transcendental commercial and business mission, made up of 33 important Cuban companies, interested in importing, exporting, and establishing business ties, will be visiting the country.

For this reason, the CEI-RD is calling on Dominican companies interested in exporting to Cuba, to register prior to the event and participate in the work and business sessions being organized with Cuban companies in order to establish commercial relations and increase our exports.

The agenda starts on Monday the 23rd at 9 in the morning, in Santo Domingo, with an inaugural seminar at the CEI-RD’s auditorium, where businessmen and representatives from the national production sector, and economic groups, as well as potential investors, will convene, followed by business sessions that will continue through Tuesday the 24th. On Wednesday the 25th, the activities will move to the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, where businessmen from the Cibao region will have a chance to participate in the seminar and take part in the business sessions.

Among the 33 Cuban companies which will visit the country, there are some linked to industrial sectors, construction, agriculture, and services, as well as health services, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.

The Director of the CEI-RD, Dr. Jean Rodriguez, commented that “in order to increase our exports and take advantage of the potential opening and growth of Cuba, for the first time our country will be visited by 33 Cuban companies to see our products, and likewise we have arranged for the Cuban authorities to visit us and brief us on trade and investment opportunities with Cuba, during the seminar.”

Jean Rodríguez invited all national producers in related areas to quickly contact the CEI-RD and express their interest and potential for exporting to Cuba, so meetings can be coordinated with the Cuban companies which will be visiting us.

Exports to Cuba from the Dominican Republic rose during 2015 to more than US$54 million, with an extraordinary growth of 63.5% compared to the previous year which shows the great potential this market holds for Dominican exporters.

Cuban Trade and Business Mission

This initiative is part of the bilateral cooperation agreements signed last year between the CEI-RD, the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, and Pro Cuba, and is backed by the Caribbean Export Development Agency and the Cuban Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
