Santo Domingo. Henry Molina, assumed his new role as Director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD for its initials in Spanish) on Thursday August 18 of this year, during a swearing in ceremony led by Mr. Temístocles Montas, current Industry and Commerce Minister, and in the presence of Jean Rodriguez, outgoing Director, who goes on to occupy the position of Attorney General of the Republic.
After thanking President Danilo Medina for the appointment and for the trust placed upon him to carry out this task, the new Director of the CEI-RD noted the opportunity to continue with the changes that have been taking place within the institution. During his intervention, Molina thanked Presidential Minister Gustavo Montalvo, for his trust and support.
He expressed to have a clear vision of the task that lay ahead, especially due to the excellent work done by previous directors, assuming his new position with humility and a desire to learn, in order to continue with the ideals set forth by President Medina’s administration, and the goals of his strategic plan for the next four years.
During the course of his speech, Molina stressed that he felt confident receiving an institution which during the past four years was led by a great public servant like Jean Rodriguez, and promised to continue the values of mutual respect, and humbleness which characterize all of the CEI-RD’S collaborators.
“I strongly ask you, to help me do a great job, so it will reflect in greater wellbeing for all our country’s citizens”, ended Molina.
The outgoing director speaks
For his part, the current Attorney General of the Dominican Republic and outgoing director of the CEI-RD, Jean Rodriguez, highlighted that he is turning over an institution which boasts four years of positive growth.
He emphasized that during his 2012-2016 tenure, the country was ranked as the number one investment destination in the entire region; “with over US$ 9.5 billion in foreign direct aid and an increase in exports of almost 14%”.
Likewise, he analyzed the growth of our exports, despite a worldwide average decrease of 10% of this economic factor.
In that regard, he highlighted the creation of more than 108,000 jobs and employment opportunities, made possible by investment attraction and export development.
Biographical sketch of CEI-RD’S new director
At the time of his appointment, CEI-RD’S new Executive Director, Henry Molina, held the position of vice minister to the Presidency, and was responsible for important tasks and missions of government operations.
Molina was director of the National Judiciary School; institution assigned to the Supreme Court of Justice from 1998 to 2010, and managed to position the institution as a model school in Latin America.
During his professional career, he worked as an associate lawyer with the firm Pellerano & Herrera where he was a consultant to the World Bank to the auxiliary commissioner for the Reform and Modernization of the Justice department, and continuing later to become its Executive Director.
Molina went on to act as interim director of the National Judiciary School, until the new law established the change from Magistracy School to, “National Judiciary School” and an open competition was initiated for the election of its director.
As an educator, he has taught at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra University the courses of: Law History, Introduction to Law, Comparative Law at a bachelor level; as well as Constitutional Law, at the master level for the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE).
