The Free Zones sector is regulated by Law No. 8-90 on the fomenting of Free Zones. This sector has around 58 industrial parks and 610 companies which contribute importantly by creating job and generating foreign currency in the country. These companies benefit from diverse fiscal and customs incentives.
The Dominican Republic offers the sector great advantages for its development and manufacturing activities, such as qualified and competitively priced manual labor, modern infrastructure, and preferential access to the United States, Europe, Central America and the Caribbean markets.
As to the Textiles sector, it represents 25.6% (US$1,2 Billion) of total Free Zone exports, with an accumulated investment of US$792.4 Million. This is due to the fact that the country has internationally renowned companies that have chosen us as their manufacturing and sales base for a wide range of products.
Likewise, the footwear industry has certain competitive advantages for the manufacturing and export of its products from the Dominican Republic, and a total of 25 companies that generate over 13,000 jobs in the country. Said sector represented 8.1% (US$406.5 Million) of the total exports of the Free Zone sector during 2012.
