During the past eight years, the Dominican Republic recorded US$16.6 Billion in foreign investment, of which US$1.2 Billion corresponds to investments in telecommunications. (7.4%)
In addition, our country possesses the most advanced telecommunications infrastructure of the Caribbean, with modern operations from local and foreign companies which offer a great variety of services, that include the use of copper wire, fiber optics, wireless land line services, digital lines (ADSL/DSL), wide use of IP technology, and the use of CDMA, GSM, 2.5G, 3G, and 4G, as well as extensive use of satellite communication.
To date, we have five fixed service providers (mixed character), four mobile service providers, and eight internet providers (ADSL, Cable Modem, Wimax, 3G and 4G).
