Santo Domingo. DR. With the presence of the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, the famous hotel chain Hard Rock International (HRI), one of the most recognized worldwide, announced the start of construction on their second hotel and casino in the Dominican Republic, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Santo Domingo.
This constitutes the next step for RCD Resorts within their investment expansion plans for Dominican Republic and is projected to begin operations by the end of 2017. It will offer 400 rooms and luxury suites, in addition to having a modern, world class casino.
It will create 800 direct jobs and 5 times that number of indirect jobs, which translates to having an impact of 4,000 job sources.
The Ground breaking ceremony took place on the hotel grounds and was headed by President Danilo Medina, executives of RCD Resorts and Hard Rock International, Mr. Robert Chapur, president of RCD Resorts and Jon Lucas, Executive Vice-president of Operations for Hotel Hard Rock & Casino.
The official delegation was integrated by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Mr. José Ramón Peralta; the Minister of Public Works, Mr. Gonzalo Castillo; and the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Francisco Javier Castillo, as well as the Executive Director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), Dr. Jean A. Rodríguez; the Mayor of the National District, Roberto Salcedo, and the Senator for the National District, Reinaldo Pared Pérez.
Also present were Mr. Robert Chapur jr., President of RCD Resorts Vacation Club; Rodrigo Chapur, Director of Special Projects at RCD Resorts and Rafael Chapur, President of the All Inclusive Collection.
Located in the heart of the capital, on the corner of Abraham Lincoln av. and Jose Andres Aybar St., in Piantini, the building’s total construction area of around 33,000Mt² will house a luxurious structure that will enlarge the country’s high-end tourism offer, by emphasizing business and convention tourism.
Stability and advances in infrastructure
Welcoming remarks were presented by the Executive Director of the CEI-RD, Dr. Jean A. Rodriguez, who stated that the Dominican Republic currently finds itself in a privileged position as a regional investment destination, thanks to current political and economic stability.
He highlighted the potential for investment opportunities in the tourism sector and pointed out that the initiative to establish the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Brand in Santo Domingo, is related to our country’s excellent positioning, and the great investment opportunities it offers, in all areas of the smokeless industry.
He stated that Santo Domingo has rapidly evolved as a destination, primarily propelled by private investments in high-end hotel infrastructure, with some of the most prestigious international brands in the industry being represented.
“This project is a reflection of the trust investors have in the country’s business climate, and is a result of the vision and work that from the beginning of his administration, President Danilo Medina has had of eliminating red tape and making the arrival of tourism investments easier and plentiful”, stated Rodríguez.
Investors praise the DR
For his part, Mr. Roberto Chapur, President of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, made clear the obvious strength that, in his judgment, the country shows in the tourism sector, and pointed out that the decision to invest in a world class hotel project and in a second Caribbean casino of the brand in Dominican Republic, is a true testimony of the nation’s qualities.
“We are very grateful for the trust placed upon us in this project, by the President of the Republic, which is proof of the joint work being carried out by the public and private sectors in order to position that investment initiative and generally contribute to the development of the country’s global economy”, he stated.
Likewise, he highlighted the Cultural and Historical assets that can be found in the Dominican Republic, in particular those potential attractions that can be enjoyed in the” First City of the Americas, a UNESCO World Heritage” as part of the national tourism offer.
Blessing of construction
The blessing of the act was performed by Monsignor Agripino Núñez Collado, with the additional presence of Simón Suarez, President of the Hotel and Restaurant Association (ASONAHORES), among other businessmen and high ranking government officials.
HRH&CSD: Ultramodern and cosmopolitan
It’s about a luxury hotel development, and it’s the second property owned by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino International. It will feature 400 hotel rooms and luxury suites and restaurant casino.
It will be home to a 23,000 ft² state of the art casino, two bars –including Hard Rock’s signature Center Bar – a race and sports book, high limit slots, 400 slot machines and 40 table games, offering Hard Rock guests a world-class gaming experience to remember.
Also a large and cosmopolitan disco which connects to the main pool.
Additionally, the property will feature a Rock Star Suite and a Rock Royalty Level floor. Unlike past collaborations between Hard Rock International and All Inclusive Collection, this hotel will not be all-inclusive.
Along with a myriad of restaurants and bars – including a cigar lounge and a celebrity-chef specialty restaurant – hotel guests will enjoy convenient access to Santo Domingo’s main shopping center Blue Mall, home to the Hard Rock Cafe Santo Domingo.
In addition, guests will enjoy access to historically significant sites, the National Aquarium and beautiful botanical gardens and parks in the surrounding area.
The property will also provide many brand exclusive offerings, including a world famous Rock Shop – home to Hard Rock’s legendary merchandise – Rock Spa’s groundbreaking Rhythm & Motion treatments and the Body Rock gym.
